Canines practice rescuing ‘missing persons’ at Kennywood
Kennywood is open on Fridays and Saturdays in October for Phantom Fright Nights, so the scents of many people and much food were strong during the training session. Dogs have learned to ignore those good smells and home in on the scent of the person they are tracking.

Thrillseekers strip naked for roller coaster record
Thrillseekers took it all off in a bid to set a new world record onboard the Green Scream roller coaster at the Adventure Island theme park in Essex, Britain over the weekend.


Derren Brown announces Thorpe Park psychological experience
Derren Brown, the illusionist, is teaming up with Thorpe Park Resort in a unique partnership to create the world’s first fully immersive psychological attraction for a theme park. This new experience has been in development for three years and is due to premiere at the park in March 2016.


‘Tower Of Terror’ Getting Movie Treatment; Venerable Disney Theme Park Fright Ride
Armed with a treatment by Big Fish scribe John August, Disney is now looking to hire a screenwriter to give feature treatment to Tower Of Terror, long one of the most popular rides in its theme parks.

Tivoli to open massive food market
The Copenhagen amusement park Tivoli has confirmed it intends to commence the construction of a huge food market, dubbed the Tivoli Food Court, located in the corner of the park facing Vesterbrogade and Bernstorffsgade.

Dreamworks theme park confirmed for Riviera Maya
Work on the park is set to begin next year in the area of Punta Maroma, with an initial investment of US $800 million. Dario Flota Ocampo, director of the Trust for Tourism Promotion of the Riviera Maya, said that the park will be the first of its kind in Latin America and will generate significant revenues and tourist numbers.

Dufftoberfest is the first seasonal offering (available through Oct. 31) of Duff Beer at Springfield U.S.A. at Universal Orlando. The area, home of The Simpsons Ride, has been serving up Homer's favorite brand of beer since 2013.

London Paramount theme park gets £100 million from Chinese investor
The London Paramount Entertainment Resort, a Disneyland-style park planned for North Kent, has won its maiden investment from Chinese construction company SinoFortone.


Shanghai Disney to have world's longest parade
Shanghai Disney Resort will have the world’s longest parade every day along with some stage shows, musical events and acrobatics performances, according to the resort management.  The daytime parade route named, “Mickey’s Storybook Express”, will stretch across the 1.16-square-kilometer Shanghai Disneyland every day after it opens in the spring of 2016.

Six Flags theme parks propose name change wagers based on NLCS outcome
Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags Great America, which are located just on the outskirts of New York and Chicago respectively, have decided to put their money where their mouths are when it comes to baseball.

Six Flags Great Escape to add metal detectors
A change is coming to a popular amusement park to make patrons feel safer.  Six Flags Great Escape is installing metal detectors at the park's front gates.

Universal Studios Hollywood's annual Halloween extravaganza has been such a hit this year that the park is extending the event beyond Halloween.


A branch of the Legoland amusement park is to open in Shanghai under a likely US$300 million (RM1.3 billion) joint venture investment by Britain's Merlin Entertainments Plc, announced during the state visit to Britain of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Bouncing Baby Rhino Arrives at Busch Gardens
Kisiri, one of the park’s adult southern white rhinos, gave birth to her third calf on Oct. 16, the theme park announced. The baby and its mother are doing well, park officials report, and are currently being cared for behind the scenes by the park’s animal care team.


Silverwood offers chance to name new water slide
Silverwood Theme Park announced Wednesday plans to open a new water slide at their Boulder Beach Water Park, and are inviting the community to help name it.

Disney lands celebrity chef Rick Bayless, Universal opens NBC Sports Grill
Thursday was a big day for Orlando restaurants as tourist attractions, with NBC Sports going into the bar business and Rick Bayless, one of the country's top chefs, announcing he's going to Disney World — or at least the Mouse-owned shopping plaza Disney Springs.


Baby flamingo is newest arrival at Hampshire theme park
The Chilean flamingo chick has emerged from its nest at Paultons Park and can be seen hiding beneath its mother’s wing.

Actually, that’s not the case.  But the characters from “The Lego Movie” will soon appear on the screen at the theater.  Merlin Entertainments, corporate owner of Legoland, is collaborating with Warner Bros. Fast, thrilling, intense and fun were just a few of the words people used to describe ZDT’s Amusement Park’s new roller coaster — the Switchback.

Bay Beach breaks ground for two new rides
Bay Beach Amusement Park has been closed for a few weeks now, but it will have two new rides when it reopens next year.  Crews started initial instillation work for the Jumping Spring and Rockin' Tug rides. However, those rides were originally scheduled to be ready to ride late this past summer.


Six Flags St. Louis to rename coaster for Chicago Cubs after losing bet
Six Flags St. Louis lost a bet with a Chicago amusement park.  The loser of the Major League Baseball’s National League Division Series to rename their coaster after the winning team.  American Thunder will now be known as “Cubs Thunder” for the remainder of the 2015 season.

The Orange County Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday voted down a request for the complex that would house what would be the tallest roller coaster in the world.

SeaWorld To Challenge Regulators Over California Orca Breeding Ban
One week after SeaWorld proposed an expansion on its orca tanks worth $100 million, the theme park company said it would pursue legal action against the state ruling that outline restrictions on park management - including the ban on breeding, trading and transferring of orcas.


Disney is hiring an intern to help it counter terrorism and beat hackers
The company posted a job opening on its website for a “global intelligence analyst intern”, a role that sits within the counter threat intelligence support team and involves analysis of “developing threats that include counter terrorism, physical threats, cyber-attacks and all reputational risks.”


Disney sets list of Candlelight Processional narrators
Walt Disney World has released the entire list of narrators for the 2015 edition of Candlelight Processional, the annual retelling of the Christmas story at Epcot. New participants include Chandra Wilson, Daniel Dae Kim, America Ferrera and the previously announced Meredith Vieira.

Beginning this week, Walt Disney World will introduce its new system, which includes PhotoPass and, you guessed it, increased prices.  


Disneyland Introduces New, More Expensive Passports
Disneyland raised prices for its annual passes this Sunday, which include a new exclusive, top-level, $1,049 Signature Plus Passport.


Disney Weighs Variable Theme Park Pricing
For the first time in the 60 years since Disneyland opened, Disney is considering switching to demand-based pricing at its domestic parks, where tickets would cost less or provide added benefits on slower days, and cost extra or come with more restrictions on dates when there tend to be too many people.

First major rollercoaster installed in Dubai
The Dragon roller coaster is the first ride to be installed at Dubai Parks and Resorts, a Dh10.5 billion project set to open in October 2016 with three separate theme parks, a hotel, and a retail and dining district spread across 25 million square feet of land.

Universal Orlando Resort raises rates for parking by $3
In May, Universal Orlando Resort raised Florida resident annual passes from $189 to $214.99. And beginning today, regular parking rates have also increased from $17 to $20.


NBC Sports Grill and Brew set to open at Universal CityWalk
The NBC Sports Grill and Brew restaurant is set to open today at Universal CityWalk, according to a post on a Twitter account from a Universal Orlando official.

SeaWorld reference mysteriously disappears from Florida Department of Education website
Animal activists took credit for SeaWorld disappearing from the Florida Department of Education's online lists of “Fun Florida Fieldtrips” and teacher discounts.  But shortly after an Orlando Sentinel reporter asked why SeaWorld had been removed, references to the theme park were back on the department's website.

Universal shuns outside transportation services as its shuttles expand
Universal, which is undergoing a growth spurt, is pursuing strategies that encourage tourists to use its own transportation services rather than outside ones. Universal provides a shuttle that's typically free for visitors at 22 hotels, mostly off its property. Last month, Universal started another service directly between its on-site hotels and Orlando International Airport.

SeaWorld whale tank expansion wins approval, with limits
The California Coastal Commission unanimously approved SeaWorld's $100 million plan to double the size of its killer whale habitat, despite the pleas of animal activists to release the behemoths into the ocean.  But the approval comes with a key condition: SeaWorld cannot breed any of the 11 whales in captivity in California.

Busch Gardens welcomes another baby aardvark
Park caretakers there are helping bottle-feed the cub, who was born on Sept. 18. They're monitoring the health of it and its mother Izzy.  The baby’s sex -- along with his or her name -- will be determined within the next few weeks. The newborn is Busch Gardens' fifth successful aardvark birth.
