Holiday World 2015: 66 Days At Sea - Day 28

On May 19, 2014, Holiday World began releasing information about their 2015 expansion plans. They launched the teaser site 66DaysAtSea.com to give clues over the course of 66 days as to what the big announcement may be.  You can read more about the site here. Day 28

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "Surely the New World is not far away."
• With the recent string of journal entries I feel like a magician trying to pull something out of thin air, trying to create something that doesn't exist.  The only discernible hint that I could extract from today's entry is that the new expansion will include a long ride.  It will be so long that you keep asking yourself when it's going to end since it will seem to last forever, much like a trip across an ocean.

Day 27

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "I fear we are only just beginning to realize the vast power of the ocean."
• Here's another entry with not a lot to it, but I'll try to analyze it anyway.  The "vast power" mention may refer to the sheer size of an attraction, but I'm going to look at it in a literal sense and say it's a hint towards a launched coaster.  Holiday World has proven a willingness to dabble in launched rides with Wildebeest and Mammoth, and applying that technology to a new coaster would certainly draw a lot of attention of park visitors.  Plus, I just really like launched coasters.

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "We have survived our first storm at sea.  I am trembling still."
• I'm going to go out on a limb at say that this is another clue for inversions on a coaster.  The "storm" mentioned here could certainly be the code word for inversions, and the fact that they said this was the first leads me to believe there will be more than one.  I could be well off base on this one, but it does line up with rumors of a large scale steel coaster being installed.

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "We are all restless today, even the animals.  The skies are worrisome."
• I don't even know where to start with this one.  The mention of animals might mean something, but I have no idea what it's pointing to.  Does anyone have any guesses for this entry?

Day 24

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "The children know to respect the belongings of the other passengers, however we are all naturally curious about the choices each family made."
• To me, this passage seems like a nod to Holiday World's competition.  With the re-emergence of Kentucky Kingdom, I'm sure Holiday World keeping a close eye on what they are doing with their park and what "belongings" they're adding.
• "For months we asked ourselves what to bring and what to leave behind.  We still ask"
• This certainly seems to point at the planning and development of not only the forthcoming announcement, but for the park's long term plans as a whole.  Holiday World, like any business, should be constantly asking themselves how they can improve.  Whether they do that through the addition of news rides and attractions or through the removal of others with high maintenance costs, Holiday World is surely contemplating how to improve their park in the sort and long term.

Day 23

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "Our ship's pilot is John Clarke."
• This seems to be just another journal entry, but let's look at the history of John Clarke.  After an eventful life full of voyages to America and being a prisoner of the Spanish for several years, John signed on as the pilot for the Mayflower.  He sailed the ship across the Atlantic Ocean, and his most notable accomplishment was miraculously bringing the ship ashore during a strong storm during an exploration expedition.  Clarke was later murdered during the Indian Massacre of 1622 in Jamestown.
• As for what this all means for the Holiday World expansion, it could point to a potential theme of a ship going through a rough storm.  This would tie into the water aspect that's been previously hinted at and could also potentially re-purpose the leftover remnants from Giraffica.

Day 22

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "We encounter increasingly strong crosswinds on our very long journey to Virginia."
• Winds are generally stronger they high up off the ground you are, so I believe this entry points to an expansion with considerable height.  When you think about types of rides that are tall in stature, you typically think of coasters, drop/launch towers, and starflyer/windseeker swing type rides.  Since Holiday World already has an S&S launch tower in Liberty Launch and a starflyer in the Sparkler, adding another version of those is unlikely.  Chalk this up to another clue for a new coaster.

• "As the ship shifts unexpectedly, there are times we can no longer stay upright.
• If our assessment of the first section is correct, this section may give us more input into the type of coaster that will be added.  "No longer stay upright" may point to inversions, but it may also point to rider position.  Could this be another clue for a flying coaster?  The only type of coaster where the rider does not ride in the upright position is the flying coaster.  Previous entries have alluded to a flying coaster so this may be another hint pointing in that direction.

• "The children laugh and clap their hands.  To them, it is a great game."
• Let's assume our assessment of this entry is correct up to this point and the park will be installing a flying coaster.  This portion of the entry suggests that this will also be a family friendly attraction.  Of the three manufacturers of flying coasters (B&M, Vekoma, Zamperla), Zamperla is the only one with a model that could even possibly be considered family friendly.
