Holiday World 2015: 66 Days At Sea - Day 35

On May 19, 2014, Holiday World began releasing information about their 2015 expansion plans. They launched the teaser site 66DaysAtSea.com to give clues over the course of 66 days as to what the big announcement may be.  You can read more about the site here. Day 35

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "The ocean waves rock our waves with an authority that at the same time causes the children to cheer and the adults to exchange concerned glances."
• This seems to corroborate two things mentioned in previous entries: the expansion, at least in part, will 
• 1) be thrilling, yet family friendly
• 2) involve water
• Whether or not these feature will be incorporated into a single attraction remains to be seen.
• "Surely our voyage will end before many more days pass."
• I'm chalking this up to another hint towards a long attraction.  Holiday World does like to build record breaking attractions, so I wonder if we're in store for the world's longest (insert coaster type here) steel coaster?  On the other hand, this may just be a disgruntled pilgrim starting to feel a little cabin fever and has nothing to do with the 2015 expansion.

Day 34

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• I can't discern any hints or clues from today's entry, so instead I'll recap our journey up until this point.  The only concrete evidence we've been able to pin down is, well, actual concrete.  Along with land clearing, footers have been poured and the remnants of Giraffica are largely intact.  Outside of that, nothing else has been confirmed.
• So what do I think will be announced on July 24th?  I'm expecting an expansion with multiple components, highlighted by a steel coaster that travels through the woods near The Voyage.  I also think water will be included in the announcement in some capacity or another.  I know these aren't exactly groundbreaking prognostications, but there's still several days worth of journal entries to analyze and I don't want to rule out anything just yet.  But no matter what Holiday World announces for 2015, this has been such a fun venture.  Getting there is half the fun.

Day 33

Analysis

Here's a fun fact.  Did you know that Bon Jonvi's "Livin' On a Prayer" was written about Day 33 of the Mayflower's voyage to America?  "Whoaaaa! We're half way there.  Whoaaaa! Livin' on a prayer." Okay, so that may not actually be true, but the lyrics still apply.  Anyway, let's look at today's entry:

• "We remember gathering our harvest last year under just such a moon and wonder longingly what the next year will bring."
• I think this entry is a nod to HoliWood Nights.  For those of you who don't know, HoliWood Nights is an annual gathering of coaster enthusiasts who make the pilgrimage to Santa Claus, IN from all across the country.  The two day event consists of a lot of fun, great food (mmmm, fudge), behind the scenes photo walk back tours, and of course my favorite: exclusive ride time.  Let me tell you.  You haven't truly lived until you've experienced night rides on The Raven, The Legend, and The Voyage.  It's an amazing event and Holiday World doesn't hold anything back.  I highly recommend it for any coaster enthusiast , and I'm sure that whatever the park installs for 2015 will only make the event even better.

• "Watching the sun set over the seas calms my soul."
• It's been a long day and a long week, so instead of trying to analyze this journal entry I think I'll follow this passenger's lead and go stare at the sunset for awhile.

Day 31

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "When I look at the deck of the ship, I remind myself that this wood was once part of a towering tree."
• The commonly heard rumor is that Holiday World will be installing a steel coaster for 2015, but what if they pull a fast one on us and install another wooden coaster?  Although they already have three world class wooden coasters, I could easily see them adding a fourth but with a twist.  A Rocky Mountain coaster such as Outlaw Run would fit in nicely and would provide the feeling of a steel coaster while maintaining a classic wooden look.
• Something else worth thinking about if Holiday World decides to install a hybrid coaster is the capabilities of the Timberliner trains from the Gravity Group.  When the Timberliners first debuted, they were touted as being able to perform inversions and be launched.  Holiday World has a history with the Gravity Group, and if the park wanted to add something that would give the feel of a steel coaster, the look of a wood coaster, and also do something groundbreaking, a launched inverting hybrid coaster would certainly fit the bill.
• "And I remind myself that we will one day see trees again when we reach the New World."
• I am fully expecting the new ride to traverse the woods out near the Voyage, and the land clearing that is already underway seems to support this notion. Trees always seem to add to the coaster experience, especially during night rides and I predict some wild HoliWood Nights events in the near future.

Day 30

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "It has been so long since we last saw land.  I tell the children to count the stars at night.  The stars will guide us."
• Alright, this settles it.  The stars mentioned here are not the literal stars you see in the sky at night, but rather celebrities.  Celebrities are in movies, and theme parks related to movies include the Universal Studios parks.  Universal is making a ton of money off of Harry Potter.  So when you connect the dots, Holiday World is clearly adding the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 2015.  Or in other words, I have no idea what this journal entry means.

Day 29

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

• "A growing number of passengers whisper concerns that we made a poor choice in joining the voyage.  How do we help them find courage?"
• I sure hope this isn't a response to the posters over at Coasterbuzz who have recently been discussing the possibility of Holiday World installing an Intamin coaster next year.  Although Intamin does create some amazing rides, they've also had more than a few inconceivable failures.  With all the mishaps Holiday World had with Giraffica, even a discounted new ride from Intamin would not be worth the maintenance hassle in my opinion.  Is this journal entry an attempt by Holiday World to calm the restless coaster enthusiasts?  We shall sea (pun intended).
