Holiday World 2015: 66 Days At Sea - Day 43

On May 19, 2014, Holiday World began releasing information about their 2015 expansion plans. They launched the teaser site 66DaysAtSea.com to give clues over the course of 66 days as to what the big announcement may be.  You can read more about the site here. We'll be highlighting each day's entry as well as providing our analysis of what we think the clues may be hinting at.

Day 43

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:
  • "The storm continues.  The rocking of the ship gives me a dizzy sensation that I cannot escape, even in my dreams.  I can write no more this day."
    • A few days ago I mentioned the possible return of the outdated stand-up roller coaster, and today I'll look at the possible return of another form of outdated theme park technology: the suspended coaster.  It would certainly fit within the framework today's entry with the way that the coaster cars rock back and forth, and it would give the park something unique and unexpected.  The only problem with a suspended coaster though, is that I'm not sure anyone manufactures them anymore.  As far as I known, Arrow Dynamics was the only company to build them and they are long gone.
    • While not a suspended coaster, I came across the Free Fly from S&S while doing some research.  This would be something thrilling for children and adults and could easily be overlaid with a boat theme.  While I don't think this is a plausible option, it would give Holiday World an easy marketing ploy since it would be the first of its kind in the United States.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 44.

Holiday World 2015: 66 Days At Sea - Day 42

Day 42

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:
  • "The children know we must stay below deck during the storm, which continues to rage all around us.  When they beg to see the deck, I show them my sketches.  It is nice to see them smile, if only for a moment."
    • All of these references of wood and decks are making it difficult to buy into the steel coaster theory, which is probably exactly what Holiday World is hoping for.  I do think it's interesting that two sketches were included in the entry when one would have sufficed.  Perhaps it's a clue of how many attractions will be included in the announcement, or maybe it's a hint of something even bigger such as a dueling or racing coaster.  In the end it's probably just something else to keep us guessing.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 43.

Day 41

Analysis

Let''s take a look at today's entry:
  • "The sea is agitated again.  Our ship heaves and groans in a way it was not before, as if crying out for solace.  Nighttime seems eternal."
    • I can't really find anything new in today's entry, so I won't even try to create a commentary.  This might be a continuing trend this week as the Fourth of July nears and life gets a little more hectic.  We'll try our best to keep up with any clues, so stay tuned and be sure to follow us on twitter if you haven't do so already.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 42.

Day 40

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:
  • "Ten times four days on our Mayflower.  How many days remain before we at last see the New World on the horizon?  What a joyous day that will be for us all!"
    • I'll keep it short today and just ask a question.  Are any of you planning to attend the announcement on July 24th (assuming it's open to the public)?
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 41.

Holiday World 2015: 66 Days At Sea - Day 39

Day 39

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:
  • "A calmer day today, but only the older children were permitted a quick moment to stretch their legs on the sodden deck."
    • The only possible hint I can decipher from this entry is for a mid-course break run. The MCBR is sometimes added to a coaster in order to give the riders a brief moment to catch their breath and prepare themselves for the remainder of the ride. Some enthusiasts dislike MCBRs because they interrupt the flow of the ride, but sometimes they're necessary not only for the sake of the riders but also for the blocking of the trains on the course which impacts capacity.  It will be interesting to see if Holiday World includes a mid-course break run on their alleged new coaster.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 40.

Day 38

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

  • "The storm continues.  Night becomes day and day becomes night, yet still the waves push our ship with such force that we cannot stand upright."
    • I'll grab the low hanging fruit here just so we can explore something different today.  Let's assume the mention of standing upright is a literal clue and that Holiday World is adding a stand-up coaster is 2015.  This would give them something unique and different since a no other park has installed a new stand-up coaster since 1999 (I'm not counting re-locations).  Nobody would see it coming, that's for sure.  It's important to note that Day 20 also contained a possibly clue of a stand-up coaster.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 39.

Holiday World 2015: 66 Days At Sea - Day 37

On May 19, 2014, Holiday World began releasing information about their 2015 expansion plans. Day 37

Analysis

Let's take a look at today entry:

  • "The children's restlessness grows.  We play guessing games and tell stories to calm their troubled minds."
    • I don't want to sound conceited, but I'm sure this entry is about us.  I don't mean this blog specifically, but the enthusiast community as a whole.  There's a lot of conversations happening about what's coming in 2015, and I'm sure Holiday World is loving all the speculation.  Enthusiasts usually have ways of finding out leaked information before it's officially released, especially with large expansions such as this, and so far Holiday World has kept the cat in the bag.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 38.

Day 36

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

  • "Another storm.  We must keep the children below deck, in the dark.  They grow restless."
    • Up to this point I've been assuming that mentions of the dark were referring to nighttime rides, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe the dark is a reference to a show building.  I'm envisioning something similar to Verbolten at Busch Gardens Williamsburg where the coaster train will enter a show building and the passengers will experience a mini show complete with dark ride elements mimicking a boat traveling through a storm.  This may also be where water features will be incorporated as well.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 37.

Day 35

Analysis

Let's take a look at today's entry:

  • "The ocean waves rock our waves with an authority that at the same time causes the children to cheer and the adults to exchange concerned glances."
    • This seems to corroborate two things mentioned in previous entries: the expansion, at least in part, will
      • 1) be thrilling, yet family friendly
      • 2) involve water
    • Whether or not these feature will be incorporated into a single attraction remains to be seen.
  • "Surely our voyage will end before many more days pass."
    • I'm chalking this up to another hint towards a long attraction.  Holiday World does like to build record breaking attractions, so I wonder if we're in store for the world's longest (insert coaster type here) steel coaster?  On the other hand, this may just be a disgruntled pilgrim starting to feel a little cabin fever and has nothing to do with the 2015 expansion.
That's it for today.  Check back tomorrow for our analysis of Day 36.
